Your Driving Record is Available On Line

ICBC LogoICBC is the provincial agency responsible for driver licensing. The corporation maintains related information and if you need a driving record for your employer or to serve as a volunteer you can download the driving record from ICBC's website for free.

On Line Driving Record Requests

Drivers request a copy of their driving records on line and after satisfying security requirements may choose to receive the documents by e-mail. These documents are digitally certified by ICBC.

The data on an interim driver's licence (yellow paper temporary issue) is not recognized by the on line system.

Driving Record Abstract Showing No Penalty Points

This is a basic driving history covering the most recent five years. It will list traffic violation tickets for offences that you have either paid or been convicted of. Driving prohibitions and criminal driving convictions will also be shown.

The abstract can include conviction information shared with ICBC from other reciprocal jurisdictions.

Your Commercial Driving Record

Professional drivers applying for employment will need a National Safety Code abstract to show the employer. This contains the basic information in the driving abstract as well as any commercial vehicle related convictions in the past five years.

Insurance and Claims History

This is important for drivers who are moving from BC to take up residence elsewhere. When you apply for insurance at your new place of residence this can be presented to your insurance company as part of the application process. This record can date back as far as 20 years if required.

Driver Factor Report

All BC licensed drivers have a driver factor assigned to them based on their driving experience and collision history. The base score is 1.000 and it becomes lower as you gain crash free driving experience.

The driver factor is one part of the calculation of your yearly insurance premium.

But this certainly makes it way easier than having to line up at a Driver Service Center, particularly as they're only open Monday to Friday / 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Make sure you have your Driver License in front of you in order to be able to pass the security questions necessary.

A clever feature is that you're able to send the information to two different email addresses at the same time; i.e. your employer and your self, for instance.
