I know enforcement people have become powerless in smartening up drivers, but something has gotta give. It seems a though everyone is driving on THEIR road, not OUR road. This mentality is shared by I'm guessing half of drivers these days, commercial and four wheelers a like. Driving defensively all day to save some of these people's lives is becoming a drag to say the least.
On June 17, 2009 the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights chaired by MP Ed Fast released a report titled "Ending Alcohol-Impaired Driving: A Common Approach." The report makes 10 recommendations, the most interesting of which says that police should be able to do random breath testing of drivers without having a reasonable suspicion that the drivers have alcohol in their bodies.

The Virginia Transportation Research Council looked at the addition of reflective stripes to the posts holding up stops signs and then studied driver behaviour. They found that the signs were easier to see in the daylight if the post did not have the stripe installed. The opposite was true at night. However, the conclusion of whether the treatment was useful or not did not surprise me.
This case involves falling asleep at the wheel of a pickup truck. Justin Roberts was travelling eastbound on the Trans Canada Highway between Kamloops and Chase. A witness watched him move onto the shoulder, roll side over side twice and come to rest in the ditch.
As of September 15, 2019 taxi drivers in British Columbia are no longer exempt from wearing their seatbelts if they are travelling at less than 70 km/h. I have never understood why this exemption was necessary, particularly in light of the fact that doing so actually endangers their passengers.
This case concerns the appeal of a speeding ticket that Cecil Lambert received after being measured with radar travelling at 126 km/h in the posted 90 km/h speed zone. This occurred on Highway 16 near Terrace. He disputed that ticket.
This decision of the B.C. Supreme Court examines the situation where two opposing vehicles approach an uncontrolled intersection. One is turning left (Swartz) and the other is proceeding straight through (Najdychor).
I have received a number of e-mails from readers following the column on B.C.'s new Slow Down, Move Over law. They are concerned that some people are taking this to mean that they don't have to pull over and stop on the approach of an emergency vehicle anymore. People that they have spoken with think that it is now acceptable to slow down, move over and let the emergency vehicle pass them by. This is not correct!
